Problem

In many Nigerian communities, a significant portion of aid and donations never reaches the intended beneficiaries due to corruption, lack of transparency, and fragmented record-keeping. This leads to mistrust between donors, NGOs, and the people in need, leaving vulnerable populations underserved. The emerging challenge is ensuring that aid flows are traceable, verifiable, and accountable, so that every contribution has real impact. Without transparent systems, donors cannot verify where contributions go, NGOs face constant accusations despite genuine efforts, beneficiaries experience uncertainty about when aid arrives, and the entire ecosystem operates on broken promises rather than verifiable delivery—suppressing donations, increasing disputes, and ultimately leaving vulnerable populations without the support they desperately need.

Scope

AidChain is a blockchain-powered aid distribution platform featuring:

  • Transparent Campaign Management: NGOs create verifiable campaigns on-chain with all details permanently recorded, real-time tracking, and public visibility of funding goals and progress
  • Smart Contract Fund Locking: Donations locked in secure smart contracts that cannot be moved without verification, with multi-signature approval for disbursements protecting against misappropriation
  • Verification & Proof System: NGOs submit evidence of aid delivery, verifiers approve based on on-chain proof through transparent processes, creating permanent audit trails of all decisions
  • Automated Accountability: Smart contracts enforce business logic with milestone-based fund release, automated refunds for failed campaigns, and immutable records of all transactions
  • NFT Impact Certificates: Donors receive blockchain-verified certificates with proof of contribution permanently stored, tradeable recognition of social impact, and community leaderboards

The platform enables complete workflows: donors browse verified campaigns, contribute directly with funds locked in smart contracts, track real-time progress, and receive NFT certificates; NGOs create campaigns, receive donations into locked contracts, deliver aid, submit proof, and request fund release upon verification; verifiers review submissions and approve/reject with all decisions recorded on blockchain; beneficiaries know when aid is coming, receive timely assistance with dignity, and can report concerns.

Cardano Integration

AidChain leverages Cardano blockchain with Plutus smart contracts for business logic enforcement including donation validation, fund locking, proof verification, automated disbursement, and refund management. Built with React frontend, Lucid for Cardano wallet connections, Express + Blockfrost for off-chain data oracle, and deployed on Cardano Preprod testnet with Docker containerization and Kubernetes scaling. Blockchain technology provides the opportunity to leverage digital identity technologies for transparency, allow real-time tracking of funds, and ensure support reaches those who need it most—offering unparalleled transparency and traceability addressing the core need for verifiable accountability in aid distribution. This creates a future where every donation is traceable from donor to beneficiary, NGOs operate with full transparency, donors have confidence their contributions make real impact, vulnerable populations receive aid reliably and with dignity, corruption is eliminated through accountability, and communities trust the aid ecosystem.
